Lisbon, a Cultural Classic

The charm of Lisbon exists in its strong links to the past; renovated palaces, magnificent churches and an impressive castle mirror the city's rich cultural heritage. Its eclectic blend of neighborhoods, culture and architecture distinguish this capital city uniquely from the other European capitals and make it a truly fascinating and comprehensive city to visit.

In recent months, Lisbon has been the recipient of incessant praise from worldwide mainstream and travel media. The New York Times recommended Lisbon as being the second “most interesting place on the planet to visit” behind Laos in December 2007. Lonely Planet ranked the city as one of ten cities to visit in 2009, describing the Portuguese capital as a “seductive mermaid”, whilst Lisbon was placed third by Yahoo Travel in its top ten of cities to visit last year.

Lisbon is one of the few cities in the world where a stay at a five-star hotel can still cost less than 100 euros per night. For cheaper accommodation, the world’s top two hostels can be also found in the city.

Portugal Becoming more affordable for Britons

A survey by a leading money exchange firm has revealed that property in Portugal has become more affordable for British buyers. A combination of factors have contributed to making Portugal a less expensive country to invest in for Britons looking to the Portuguese property market, including the general prices, mortgage costs and increasingly favourable exchange rates. Property prices and mortgage repayments are now significantly lower than in 2008 in many of the UK’s favourite foreign holiday home destinations.

The pound also hit a 2009 high against the euro on Thursday 11th June 2009 when £1 bought €1.17.
